View from Les Arcs

Mont Blanc to the left and to the right Grandes Jorasses (both in shadow). The high clouds suggest the weather might change soon.

First day of skiing this winter, Villaroger, France

After a 15 hour drive yesterday from UK to France, I get my telemark skis on and head out with Mark and John at Villaroger. For December there are a lot of fresh tracks to ski, and it is cold! Second picture shows Mark popping up a jump, and the first was taken on the brilliant high traverse at Villaroger. It's great to be here! We collect our season ski-passes in Bourg St Maurice this evening

Boxing day walk, Lake District, UK

Four hour walk from Coniston up Yewdale Fell to Wetherlam, then the steep ridge climb up to Swirl How and finally Old Man of Coniston. Strong wind, snow and ice provide an "out there" experience and we see only a few other people. Vertical ascent of nearly 800m to the summit. Perfect weather conditions. Picture shows brother Steve walking down from Wetherlam, before the steep ridge up to Swirl How.

Christmas day walk

Here are Mum and Steve and dog Jack with Coniston water behind, in the Lake District, UK. The fresh snow is tantalising us for our coming time in the France Alps. The walk takes us from Coniston up past the copper mines and over the Yewdale fells to Tilberthwaite.
