Travel: Trekking in the Indian Himalaya

I left Singapore on 31st May, and arrived in Delhi to over 40 degrees C. Sanjay and Radhika looked after me, and the next morning dropped me off at the train station bound to Haridwar, and then by car to Rishikesh. My destination was Gangotri at 3095m, the source of the holy Ganges river. Together with guide Rishi and four porters we set off on foot to the glacier and Gaumukh at 3850m, a place of pilgrimage for Hindus. From there we continued over the glacier beyond to the meadows of Tabovan, and then Nandavan. Beyond Nandavan we trek to a glacial lake Vasukital and reach an altitude of 4915m: higher than Mont Blanc in France. The picture shows Mt Shivling; we camped at the base of this 6950m peak for two nights. After 13 days trekking, I travel down to Dehra Dun and then take a ten hour bus trip to Shimla where Sanjay and Radhika and family were great hosts. Back to Delhi and Singapore.
